    About you
    Why we ask

The TD1 asks for it. The tool only writes it in your PDF, in your browser.

The tool checks the last digit of the number with the CRA rule. It stays on your device.

    Why we ask

Your employer needs your social insurance number (SIN) to report your pay to the CRA.

Your employer needs your number to report your pay. Do not send it by email.

Are you a resident of Canada?
    Page 2 of the forms
Do you have more than one employer or payer at the same time, and have you already claimed your credits on another TD1 for 2026?

Use this answer if your total income from all sources will be more than the credits you claimed on the other TD1.

Will your total income for the year, from all employers and payers, be less than your total claim amount?
    Your income

You need this only for a partial claim. It is the income you expect to have after deductions. Leave it empty if you will not be over the limits of the lines below.

    Your credits

Answer each question that is true for you. Each line shows the amount that goes on the form.

Every resident of Canada can claim the basic personal amount.

    TD1 line 1: $16,452

If your net income from all sources will be more than the threshold, the amount goes down. The tool uses the CRA worksheet.

Will you be 65 or older on December 31, 2026?

    TD1 line 3: left empty

Do not count CPP, QPP, old age security or guaranteed income supplement payments. The form takes the smaller of the limit and your pension.

    TD1 line 4: left empty

Count only schools where you will pay more than $100. A student at a university, college or a school certified by Employment and Social Development Canada can claim it.

    TD1 line 5: left empty

Will you claim the disability amount on your income tax return with Form T2201?

    TD1 line 6: left empty

    Spouse, dependants and children
Do you support your spouse or common-law partner, and do they live with you?

    TD1 line 7: left empty

Do you support a relative who lives with you, and you have no spouse or partner that you support or that supports you?

If you have a spouse or partner who does not live with you and you do not support each other, you may answer yes.

    TD1 line 8: left empty

Only one parent may claim each child. If the child does not live with both parents all year, the parent who claims the eligible dependant amount may claim it.

    TD1 line 2: left empty

Amounts transferred from your spouse or a dependant

Enter the unused amounts. The provincial amounts are not the same as the federal ones. Ask your spouse or dependant, or look at their return.

    Federal form

Deduction for living in a prescribed zone

You may claim this if you live in a prescribed northern zone for more than six months in a row, beginning or ending in 2026. The zones include the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. The amount is $11.00 for each day. It is $22.00 for each day if you keep a dwelling and you are the only person in it who claims this. An intermediate zone gets half.

Do you live in a prescribed zone for more than six months in a row, beginning or ending in 2026?
    Additional tax to be deducted

You may want more tax taken from each payment if you have other income, such as CPP, QPP or old age security. You may fill out a new TD1 to change it later.

To ask for less tax at source for other deductions or credits, fill out Form T1213. This tool does not fill it. Form T1213 at the CRA.

    Certification

You certify that the information on the forms is correct and complete. It is a serious offence to make a false return.

    Questions

    What is a TD1?

A TD1 tells your employer or payer which personal tax credits to use when they take tax from your pay. There is a federal form and a provincial or territorial form.

Do I send the TD1 to the CRA?

No. Give both forms to your employer or payer. They keep them. The CRA does not want them.

Do I need the provincial form too?

Yes, if your claim on the federal form is more than the basic personal amount. This tool fills both forms. Your employer uses both to work out your deductions.

    Which province do I pick?

Pick the province or territory where you work. If you are a pensioner, pick where you live. Quebec has its own form.

What if I have more than one employer?

Claim your credits on one TD1 only. On the other TD1s, check the box for more than one employer. The tool then puts 0 on the total line.

    Is my information uploaded?

No. Both forms are filled on your device. A profile you save keeps your name, address and date of birth, and your social insurance number only if you choose that. Read the privacy page.

    Is this the official form?

Yes. The tool fills the PDFs that the Canada Revenue Agency publishes. The page shows the year and when we last checked them.

This tool does not give legal or tax advice. Ask a tax professional if you are not sure.
