Before you start
What you get
The official state form, filled in as a PDF. Other cases get a sheet to copy from, or a link to the state office.
What you do next
Sign it here with Preview and sign, or print it and sign by hand. Follow the checklist: attach your 990, pay the fee and send everything to the state.
What this tool does not do
It does not file anything. It does not make a federal Form 990.
More to know
  • The California Registry says its Online Filing Service is the best way to file. It still takes completed forms with a check by mail.
  • A first registration in California or Illinois is not filled here. You get the state's own forms.
  • The Unified Registration Statement (URS) has no PDF here. You get a sheet to copy from. The official list of states that take it was not read.
  • The official URS site, multistatefiling.org, refused automated access. The URS states here come from the state pages and the NASCO survey.

    Questions

Which states can I fill a form for?

California (the RRF-1, with the CT-TR-1 for a charity that files a 990-N) and Illinois (the AG990-IL) renewals. For a first registration, the tool uses the URS where the state takes it. For other cases it links to the state office.

When is the California RRF-1 due?

Four months and fifteen days after the fiscal year ends. That is May 15 for a calendar year. An IRS extension is honored: file with the IRS first.

How much is the California fee?

The fee goes by total revenue. It is $25 under $50,000 and $1,200 over $500 million. The tool shows the fee of your revenue. Make the check payable to Department of Justice.

Can I still mail the California filing?

Yes. The Registry says the Online Filing Service is the most secure and easiest way. It still takes completed forms with a check by mail. Do not mail a filing you sent online.

When is the Illinois AG990-IL due?

Six months after the fiscal year ends. The fee is $15 when contributions or assets pass the limits. A report that is late or incomplete has a $100 late fee.

    What is the URS?

The Unified Registration Statement is one form for a first registration in many states. Each state still asks for its own supplement and fee, and sets its own renewal.

    Is my information uploaded?

No. The PDF is made on your device. A profile you save keeps the name, address and contact. It keeps the EIN and registration numbers only if you choose that. Read the privacy page.
